Importing Ai in Ae gives the user two options: import as Composition, which imports all layers, or Import as Footage, which allows to select layers one at a time.
When a complex Ai is animated, but some extra layers are needed in the Ai, it would be nice if we could import these all at once, without having to import those one by one, or import the complete Ai again (which results in double items in the project and chaos).
In the best case, these layers should be imported (optional) directly into the active Composition, while copying their positions from the Ai.
