Deformers have a button 'Fit to Parent', which copies the dimensions of the Deformer's parent to the deformer's dimensions, so it exactly fits the geometry that it is going to deform.
Deformer can also work next to the geometry, on the same hierarchy level. But in that case 'Fit to Parent' makes no sense, and doesn’t work. In that case 'Fit to Sibling' (sibling = bother/sister) should be nice. Or better - an intelligent function that is called 'Fit to Geometry', which fits the Deformer to the affected geometry in all cases.
